Please see this notice from ADA.  This means that all Active members
will pay 4 USD more for ADA active member dues starting June 1, 2008.  A
very small increase for an amazing profession!

Members' Future

HOD Core Function: Information Systems/Communication

Executive Summary: This message provides you with information on the
small membership dues increased for Fiscal Year 2009.

*Background Information*
**
At our Fall 2007 Meeting, we discussed the continuation of a
process for future American Dietetic Association membership dues
increases.  As a result of this HOD discussion, we approved HOD Motion
#1 electronically on November 6, 2007 (see Speaker Message #15 posted on
November 11, 2007).

This motion provided the following direction: Dues for members
in the Active category may be increased, indexed to inflation and not to
exceed an increase of 3 percent per year, and dues for other member
categories could be increased proportionately.

The House determined that the decision to increase dues within
this framework is the purview of the Board of Directors based on
evidence provided by the Finance and Audit Committee.
The motion also directed that this process should be
reevaluated by the House of Delegates no later than 2013.

*Board Action on Membership Dues *

*After an extensive review of ADA 's projected finances, the
Board approved a minor dues increase of 1.94 percent for Fiscal Year 2009.
This figure is less than the 3 percent allotted by the House
of Delegates, and it is less than the 4.1 percent rate of inflation in
the in 2007.

It is important to note that this action allows the Board to
maintain member valued programs and services and to invest in new ones.

*What Does this Mean to ADA Members?*
*
*Active category dues will increase $4, from $206 to $210.
Retired member dues, which are calculated as half of Active
dues, will increase $2, from $103 to $105.

ADA members will receive notice of the slight dues increase in
their dues renewal statement.

The House will recall that, after careful deliberation, the
Board previously decided to raise dues by 3 percent ($6) for FY08.
This small increase did not lead to a reduction in members. In
fact, ADA 's total membership as of February 22, 2008 is 3.3 percent
higher and Active membership 1 percent higher than FY07.
