Hello Staci,
For several years, I have noticed with increasing concern, that
in the area of extreme environments, the very people that have the most
experience in nutrition-us, have been the least recognized and utilized
by private businesses, agencies and universities. I have also noticed
the increasing trends for other disciplines to establish and implement
both the knowledge and standards within this area. After attempting to
establish a practice group under ADA, it led to the questions of no one
quite knew how many Dietitians were practicing in this area, or in what
emphasis area of it (extreme heat, extreme cold, underseas, off planet,
etc.). ADA was understandably hesitant to alot personel and fiscal
resources to an unknown, till there is a better answer to these
important questions. Upon further review, it was found that ;there
were and are Dietitians practicing out there, and these Dietitians knew
of other Dietitians who worked in the same extreme environment, but not
necessarily all of the different extreme nutritional environments, which
has led to less effective communication and shareing of each ones
knowledge and experience. Except for the military Dietitian in the
field, I could not find a formal, organized, unified web site where all
the Dietitians could communicate and share with each other in whatever
extreme environment they were in, in whatever application of it, and
provide the opportunities to know of the private businesses, agencies
and universities that would and are providing jobs, grants, projects,
majors, etc., for them. It is vervently hoped that with such a website
created, all of the extreme environment Dietitians could have all of
this and more, to have their voice unified and heard in the cre ation of
and implementation of practice and policy in thius area, a global
voice. When the number of Dietitians are large enough, this web site
will be forwarded to the ADA, HEN practice group to consider, and run,
for the ongoing posterity of these Dietitians. The web site is
scheduled to be up no later then mid-November, and the domain name is
EsquaredNutrition. It is a work in transition and growth, as is fitting
untill these Dietitians make it their own.
Thank you for your interest, and if I can be of any more help please
contact me.

Note: My e-mail has been terrible since November 2007.
* The Malawi Telephone service has been on strike since January 2 (and I have a dial up service).
* I've had no computer for part of January
* I am struggling to keep up. If you sent something important and I've not responded, please resend assuming it is lost or buried deep in the rubble.
* Thanks for your patience.
