Hello Everyone!

I received an email from an RD in the states who saw my picture in the ADA
Times and wants to know more about working overseas. I thought with all of
our different experiences she could benefit from hearing from a number of
us.

Please email her your experiences and answers to her questions. I have
pasted her two emails below. Her email address is amyfanjoy at hotmail.com

Thanks!

Amanda

Amanda,

I hope this email finds you well. Thank you very much for your quick
response, sorry I've been so busy not to respond before now.

In January of this year I went to Bolivia to build houses with Habitat for
Humanity and ever since I returned my desire to do nutrition in
underdeveloped countries has grown. There are so many people I feel I want
to help and be blessed all at the same time.

A few questions I had at this point would be:
How would one even think about starting to work in another country?
What are the connections/contacts that need to be made?
How long of a commitment would be allowed?
How would a person finance their stay?
Are there interpreters available or do you have to be fluent in the
language?

Just a few questions to start. Thank you for your time in advance.

Warm regards,
Amy

To Whom This May Concern,

My name is Amy Fanjoy and I'm currently an ADA member and practicing
clinical dietetics. However, I have been interested in doing dietetics in
underdeveloped countries. Especially since I have returned from Bolivia,
just recently. After reading about Amanda Paltzer, RD I became very excited
that there are other people already doing what I would like to pursue. I was
hoping you might forward my email to Amanda so that I might discuss working
in another country a little further with her. Thank you for your time.

Best regards,
Amy L. Fanjoy MS, RD, LDN
