Hi Marta,

It was the wrong judgment of the teacher. Supersize me is not appropriate for 3rd graders, in the sense that there are some scenes and language that are not age appropriate and because it really is not designed as an educational tool. I can see a 3rd grader watching this with their parents, privately, but I wouldn’t agree to actually show the film during school hours in class. However I do believe that all parents and teachers should watch it.

Subject: [AODA members] Is the movie Super Size me not appropriate for 3rdgraders?

Hello all,

After a nutrition talk to a 3rd grade class I recommended the teacher to see Super Size me. She showed it also to the 3rd grade class. It is the end of the school year and her kids have been invited to McD for an end of the year little celebration. Well, the 3rd graders refuse to go and would prefer to go to an Italian food place (we are in Italy after all!) stating it is healthier unlike McD which give you hart problems.

Teachers got upset at the 3rd grade teacher (and me indirectly... that dietitian@#!) telling her that showing Super Size me was not appropriate for 3rd grade kids.

What do you think...is it or is it not??!!!
